Well as you might notice, I do have a deep love and yes fascination with NASCAR. Not just the sport itself but a deep respect and appreciation for it's production value. I find it attention-grabbing with the new and
thrilling camera angles, the crisp audio and ample coverage.
Think of the challenge that one has - really not one but the director - is to give us the viewing audience a good show. So different from let's say a football or baseball game where the action is corralled to a field, NASCAR has the real challenge of the track, then you have the pits and the behind the scene footage. So much more to cover and be on top of.
This article is a fun one and shows that ESPN will be adding some new gear to the show.

As HD becomes a household name we will start to see this technology popping
up everywhere. Here is a new one, an HD satellite TV antenna for DirecTV on
vessels:
Raymarine Inc., a firm specializing in marine electronics, has introduced a
product designed to keep mariners attuned to HD programs via satellite. The
company's 45STV HD Satellite TV Antenna System is designed for DVB-TV
receivers. The automatic, marine-stabilized antenna allows users to pull in
HD from DBS provider DirecTV, beamed to wherever the vessels are located,
according to the company.
Expanding on the original 45STV system introduced a year ago, the new system
features a "dual low noise block" design that supports multiple receivers,
allowing monitoring of other media (such as weather bulletins) while
streaming HD in another location in the boat or ship.
The system's footprint is slightly more than 19 inches diameter and about 30
pounds.
As NASCAR continues to grab viewers it is also getting the investment attention for other major sports franchises. Rousch Racing my favorite NASCAR team sold 50% of the company shares to Fenway Sports Group morphing into Rousch Fenway Racing. You might know Fenway Sports as they own the Boston Red Socks.
I see this as a major trend in sports. At the end of the day it is all about viewers and NASCAR has them. NASCAR has also taken an aggressive stance with integrating technology into each race for both the TV viewer and the spectator at the track. Go NASCAR!

HDTV homes to reach 151 million by end 2011
The newest in households having HDTV. At the end of 2006, 27.7 million HDTV households.
I would imagine that I am just about the only one in the Western Hemisphere that did not watch the Super Bowl. Well, I didn't as my flu was a full swing and had me asleep in bed for - well, it felt like eons.
But all I heard about the broadcast was: 1) Great David Letterman & Oprah commercial but what was the product they were selling - Chips I think - what type of chips no one seems to remember, 2) What the heck was the broadcast company thinking that they did not need rain hoods on their cameras - just a womping $1,000 for each camera. How many shots did the viewers at home say "darn those rain drops are really annoying me or I can't really tell the lens is wet." Give me a BREAK - Cough up the bucks to have your cameras ready for a sporting event that takes place is just about all types of weather. Do you think the production manager lost his job over this one? 3)Poor Chicago!
